life on earth, friends of nature & of all people, children of
humankind calling ourselves Rainbow Family Tribe, humbly invite:

WHERE WILL THE GATHERING BE?

The truth is no one knows where the gathering will be at this time.

In July 2007, Vision Council called for it to be in
Wyoming

Thanksgiving Council

In November 2007, Thanksgiving Council (T-Council) took place
over the four day holiday weekend to discuss planning
for a healthy and safe gathering and they came up with the
following dates for the next councils:

Specific dates for future councils where set as

May 1st - Mobile Scout Fire (First scout council)

All the scouts and anyone interested in being involved
in site selection show up. No experience necessary, but
you must be able to pay your own way, contribute to food,
gas, etc.

June 2nd - Second Scout Rendezvous

All people who have been scouting will come together
to discuss what they found and possibly revisit sites
that hold great promise.

Spring council
Starts June 10

Spring Council is when people get together and share
the info on the possible sites available for the gathering, discuss the prons and cons of each location and then reach a decision. It generally takes one to seven days. If you come to Spring Council,
please be self sufficient and and prepared to feed and water yourself.

As soon as the site is selected, information is widely
distributed. All the information I have is located

I also email updates to folks on my email list.

Until spring council reseaches a decision, there is no
answer to the question "where is the gathering?"

Once Spring Council reaches a decision, Seed Camp begins.
Seed Camps is when we create the infrastructure to support the
gathering. This means building kitchens, digging shitters,
laying water pipe and building water filtration stations.
Seed camp generally finishes by the end of June.
If you come to seed camp early be self sufficient and be prepared to work.

The Annual Gathering of The Tribes

The main day of the gathering is July 4. Some people come
a few weeks early to create the gathering. Some stay a few
weeks late to help with clean up. Plan on spending at least
a week so you have a chance to get settled in, make friends
and get involved.

Gatherings tend to be located many miles from the nearest Interstate
and paved road. When planning your drive, realize that the
last 50 to 100 miles may be traveled at 20 MPH and plan
accordingly.

Always plan to arrive early in the morning. The roads
into the gathering are generally in poor shape and it's
easy to get lost at 1 AM in the dark when you've been
driving for 12 hours. Kick it at a camp site for the
night, get up at dawn and come on home.

It can take 4 to 8 hours from the time you park
your car until you've gotten to your campsite and pitched
your tent. If this is your first gathering, I'd plan
on 8 so you can figure out what's happening and where
you want to camp.

KIDS:

For people with kids, if you've never been to a gathering
plug in with Kiddie Village - a kid friendly space with
lots of parents willing to share how to sanely and safely
parent at a gathering. If you've never camped with kids
before, read up an that to make sure you're prepared.

ACCESS:
For people with special needs, ask for Handicamp - a space
for people with mobility and other related disabilities with lots
of folks willing to help you make the most of your gathering
experience. While the trails can be tough and conditions vary from
site to site, there's usually
a couple of friendly folks just waiting to assist with the
rough spots. Sometimes we have cool things like rickshaws
to assist people in getting around.
Bring your own personal supplies (catheter, wraps, chair,
medical supplies, diapers, cleanup, etc.).
Bring own attendent if you need assistance with personal care
(bowel programs, skin, transfer, catheterizations, wounds, etc) or
supervision issues or other issues (mobility, access, safety) as needed.

Gathering Consciousness to prepare for a positive gathering.

Black's Beach in San Diego

So I received this email last night from a Black's Beach regular.
As a point of reference, the actual night of the full moon was Friday.

Since we canceled the Full Moon Circle, people seem to be going anyway and while
many Rainbows go on the night of the full moon to try to teach people how to
be conscious with the land and each other, the nights surround the full moon
seem to be an issue as well.

I went to Black's Saturday evening shortly before sunset and did some minor
trash pickup (cigarette butts and small scraps of plastic in the sand) as
well as removed some left over clothes, shoes, towels, etc. I didn't leave
until dark and there was no one there when I left - but I'm guessing later ....

At any rate, I am very sadden by all this. I've left the brother's name off
the email because who he is isn't important - what is important is the information
and pain he is sharing.

I'm always thankful for your efforts. We all mean well, but you have fallen short this last gathering. As I arrived the morning of March 22, there were still many people hiking up the trail. I saw one man rightly challenged for failing to keep his promise of carrying up cans. I'm sure he never kept that promise.

As I hiked down, I was saddened to find that steps had been taken from the trail. Just as we were getting ahead on trail upgrades, we suffered a setback. Soon afterward I discovered that volleyball poles had also been cut off. Soon after that I found the poles had not gone up in smoke. It was a senseless crime against us.

Eventually I learned that the vandalism of the trail had not taken place Friday night, but rather Thursday. Then Sunday I learned that a further act of vandalism had taken place Saturday night. More of the trail had been raided for firewood.

These acts of vandalism are taking place before, during and after your gathering. Abusive and irresponsible people are arriving before you, and staying after you have gone. I don't know what you can do about this. I just want you to be aware of the depth of the problem.

I feel a personal pain because I have done much of the trail upgrades. This vandal not only undoes my work. He leaves it in a dangerous state, specifically spikes sticking up. I hesitate to continue with our upgrades, because we may just be supplying him with more firewood.

2008 Rainbow Gathering Site Suggestion

I'd like to officially suggest that the next gathering be on INDIGENOUS LAND preferably in the four corners area or possibly with the Crow Tribe who host a 45,000 plus pow-wow every year (its called the Crow Fair). The Cahto of Nor. Cal might also be open to it as i organized a festival with them with many similarities to a gathering, the event had complications and had too fold before it began but the people of that tribe are awesome.

1. A gathering on indigenous land would direct funds into their community.
2. Allow for cultural exchange.
3. Decrease the influence of LEO's
4. Compound the ingrained beliefs of gatherers (the white buffalo and four corners for example) and on a larger scale
respect for nature.
5. Forever change the face of the gathering as an actual ethnic diaspora enters the American Gatherings which will
inevitably / exponentially increase its mass as a movement.

The Eco-Ark Project - growing a diverse assortment of useful (food, medicinal,
fiberous)and threatened plants in order to ensure the
continuation of their species into the future.
I am Zen. I have a small 3 acre place out in the rain forest on Hawaii. I am interested in making a botanical garden/ nature preserve/ food producing park and joining with my neighbors new and old in forming a loose and independent community out there. There are a few other families out there with similar community goals and I am offering my place as a stepping stone for others to live and hopefully purchase other lots in the area in order to grow our community without having to rule and control anyone (Freedom rules)

I'm putting a small group together that want to give Hawaii a try and help plant trees and make trails and garden areas. It only requires one short day a week to cover camp space and with even a lousy job (The biggest town on the Island, Hilo, is only fifteen miles away) you can save enough to buy your own 3 acre lot in the neighborhood. Water falls from the sky out here (180"/yr) and when the changes come we have the resources to survive.

If we all meditate at the same time, anchor ourselves in the Earths Starry Core and beam ourselfs to the highest dimensions we can reach with the help of Ets, Archangels and Ascended Masters, we can have a significantly beneficial impact on the Energy Grid of Mother Earth and the Collective Human Consciousness. There are many ways to climb up to through the dimensions, I find the merkaba the most effective but if you simply connect to your I AM Presence (in your chest), ground yourself, invoke your guides, angels, et's of light and the ascended masters plane, then visualize a little version of you standing in your pineal galnd on a glowing lotus, connect a string from the top of your head your head all the way up to the Infinite source of All that Is and vizualize yourself on the lotus shooting up the string as high as you can and into the Great Galactic Sun, bathe in the Awesome Light for a few minutes and then bring it down with you all the way to the Earths core,, this will anchor a massive pillar of light,, vizualize it comming down and sinking deep into the earht,, shinny, pearly and radiant white. You can also speak to the dimensions themself and ask them to anchor into our planet and help heal and raise our frequencies,., they cannot help with out our asking (law of free will).. ok basicly heres the deal ..i went on a cheap vacation this past summer.
i thought it was going to be one of those time share things but it was not.
an have the opp to do it again and i am doing it,
now to the reason im posting this: we all deserve a cheap vaca. and i would love to see some rainbow fam in the islands :) i am posting this in a couple places tho deadline for half the money is march.
im not plannig a bunch of group activities or anything for once we get there . i have about 5 ppl going allready

So anybody here remember/sit in with/participate in/know anybody from the Musical Veggie Kitchen? i camped with them a few years & fell in love, over the course of the last few years of not attending gatherings i lost touch with them, then someone told me they dissolved/retired, and are no longer a kitchen..
I would like to share stories about happy times and warm memories with that amazing kitchen here, so if you have any, post away! i'll be posting some of my own here shortly.

A new group for Eco Sustainable Alternative Tech. Mud Junkies

Well, I have pulled myself out of the Hawaiian rain forest once again. With months of computer time ahead of me as I write my second book, I decided to finally start a gr
oup focused on the Eco-Ark Project. Its multiple purposes include raising awareness of the Eco-ark being built in the Puna Rain Forest, encouraging others to start similar projects in their own area, sharing ideas and methodologies for accomplishing these goals, spreading ideas concerning sustainable, Eco-friendly technologies and off grid community living. Spreading knowledge of organic permaculture techniques, to encourage the building of community gardens and the growing of food in publicly accessible places (Green Ribbon Project). And helping each other to restoring this planet to its divinely intended Edenic state before it is too late.

This group will also act as a central meeting place for individuals wishing to join in the continued building of the ark on Hawaii Island next summer.

Learning to walk barefoot

The Internet was new and, at least for me, a vast and undiscovered land when I came across an article: “Escaping pain in this life”. I don’t know who wrote those pages, but I’m still keeping a copy with me. The author explains:

“In order to enter and enjoy the natural world, one must return to their natural state. That means learning to walk barefoot on all kinds of terrain, in all kinds of weather (Sherpas and holy men do so, even in winter at 20,000 feet), swimming nude in ice-cold streams etc. until you become one with your natural environment. Obviously, this takes time. Seven years is not too long to give yourself, though some be faster or slower. (…) The reasons the '60s movement became so powerful, sexually, was that we went barefoot all the time, which allowed energy to enter our bodies from the Earth, and provided continuous stimulation of the reflex points on the soles of our feet. (As in most things, nature provides what we need far better than we can.) Going barefoot also created a connection to the Earth and everything on - and in – it, which is quite mysterious. There is definite planetary intelligence at work, and when we go barefoot, we're far more in touch with it.”

It was as if someone was writing about me: I'm always barefoot, all-year-round, wherever I go, whatever I do, and the main reason is that I feel disconnected if I’m wearing anything on my feet, and be it only a pair of flip-flops! “Seven years is not too long to give yourself” - It’s almost seven years now that I’ve given up wearing shoes altogether, that my feet aren’t imprisoned anymore… No doubt: Walking barefoot, I’m far more “in touch”, in touch with nature, with Mother Earth… Energy can flow freely, it’s very refreshing and stimulating. Besides: The ecological impact is far less dramatic (erosion!) if I’m hiking without shoes!

I’ve read about the various fears common in Western society about energy entering our bodies from the Earth, but there’s no reason to be afraid! Bare your soles and you’ll know what I’m talking about…

Why isn't pot legal in U.S.?

When I first moved here, I thought marijuana was illegal. And then after living here a few years, I realized that everyone and their mom either smokes it, buys it, grows it, or sells it. So then I thought weed wasn't illegal. But then in the past few weeks, I've been hearing about these drug busts and house raids and farms getting shut down, which has made me start to think, once again, that marijuana is in fact illegal.

I grew up thinking weed was BAD. Just say no to drugs. Marijuana is a gateway drug. It's addictive, and it'll get you hooked on harder drugs like ice and cocaine. Somewhere, somehow this was ingrained in me.

But then I started going to public school, and a lot of my friends were smoking it. They made special brownies, and they ate them in class ... and they always got good grades! When I went to college in California, everyone in the dorms smoked it -- all the time. And many of them were honor students. I found the same thing happening when I studied in England. Those Brits love their pot. They actually roll their marijuana with tobacco so they don't smoke it all one time -- weed is hard to come by in those areas. But when I visited Amsterdam, I found pot on every corner. I remember walking into a coffee shop there and being absolutely astounded with their menu. Right next to their coffee list was a list of marijuana strains! They even had complementary pipes and hookahs for free samples of the herb.

When I worked as a professional on Oahu, I found that a lot of business owners and all these rich, white guys smoked weed for recreation. That was a little shocking for me.

But then I moved here, and nothing really shocked me anymore. Everyone -- young and old, rich and poor, local and haole -- was smoking it.

And it made sense to me. For one, the lifestyle here is so laid back. Everything is chill, and the marijuana high seems to complement that. And two, the farmland and weather conditions here are prime for cannabis. You don't have to do anything to the plant. Just throw it in the ground and it grows. And three, there aren't many other jobs or sources of income on this island (yet) to sustain everyone who wants to live here.

In my time here, listening to different people's stories, I've learned that marijuana is sacred and natural, that it can expand the mind and take you to higher states of consciousness. That would explain why some of the kindest and wisest people I've met are advocates of the herb. And I don't really have to say this because it's so obvious, but smokers of marijuana are way more peaceful, loving, and conscious than most alcohol drinkers out there. And yet, somehow, alcohol is totally a legal drug (and a multibillion-dollar industry in the U.S.).

I was reading the forums online regarding the pot busts on this island, and different people have their different beliefs.

Some people think weed is a danger to society and to the youth. Some people think it should be taxed and controlled. Some people think cannabis is still illegal because it's a threat to big industries like pharmaceuticals, tobacco, cotton and oil. Many believe that criminalizing it is a way to simply control the masses.

But there seems to be no disagreement about this: marijuana frees the mind.

The main reason people love the herb is the same reason other people fear it. If everyone smoked weed, this world might be happy, healthy, peaceful, and free. People might actually quit their jobs and start doing what they love. Society, as we know it, would come tumbling down.

Bob Marley once said, "The more people smoke herb, the more Babylon fall."

The 2007 Rainbow Gathering is in Ochoco National Forest at a place called Indian Prarie in central Oregon. (between Prineville and Mitchell)
From Prineville:
Take hwy 26 east towards Mitchell. Make a right turn onto hwy 23,(this road is not marked, but is the next two lane paved road after the reservoir, a few miles out of town, to the right) which later turns into hwy 22 and continues to Walton Lake. Soon after the lake, turn left onto FS 150, a dirt road. Go a little ways till 150 ends in a T. Go right onto FS 2630, and continue to the parking lot and Bus Village.

Take hwy 26 west towards Prineville. A little ways past the Bandit Springs rest area, go left onto FS 2630. This later becomes FS 2210, and 2630 becomes a less maintained road. Follow FS 2210 to hwy 22. Turn left onto hwy 22 and follow past Walton Lake. Soon after the lake, turn left onto FS 150, a dirt road. Go a little ways till 150 ends in a T. Go right onto FS 2630, and continue to the parking lot and Bus Village.

This is right near the Bridge Creek Wilderness area, and north of the Big Summit Prarie. I can see several springs on the map. Sortof behind the site is the Mt. Pisgah Lookout. It looks to be no more than 6000-6500 feet in altitude.

What is a Rainbow Gathering?
Carla's Gathering Basics
What follows is my take on it. No one put me in charge (thank goodness), so you may get other answers from other folks that add or subtract stuff - but basically I think most folks will be in agreement with what I see as being the basics for a gathering.
It is free and non-commercial. This means no entry fee and no money charged for any service at the event (food, medical, etc.). There are people at gatherings who hang out with the barter circle and essentially have a commercial trip going either with trade or cash, but this is their own personal trip and has nothing to do with the actual set-up of a gathering. I personally consider these folks in violation of the basic spirit of the gathering and wish they would go away, or at least put away their trade goods. But since we have no cops, no courts, and no jails, they continue to do as they please, over the objections of many but also with the support also of many. Anyway, with the exception of these folks who are taking advantage of the free space, you shouldn't find any commercialism at a gathering whatsoever.
Rainbow gatherings are non-aligned both spiritually and politically. There is no one right religious or spiritual belief; people of all faiths are welcome to come gather. Often, people from specific churches or temples come set up their own camp and feed lots of folks from their kitchens (the Krishnas and the Bread of Life Christian camp being the most notable). There are no hassles towards any church group proselytizing or trying to win converts - if people want to listen, that's their own business.
Rainbow also does not support any specific political cause, party, issue, or candidate. Many people come to gatherings to recruit for their own specific Peace Walk, Drums around the Pentagon, environmental action, or whatever; but again, that is their own trip. They certainly have the right of free speech to spread the word about whatever event they are sponsoring. But they do nothave the right to call it a Rainbow event or claim they have support of the Rainbow Family. If they do make such claims, they are ripping off the Family name. Folks involved in such actions have every right to also mention, if asked, that yes, they consider themselves to be Rainbows. No reason not to fly your colors, especially when you're doing something you consider a good cause and are proud of being involved in. You just can't say that your event (protesting logging the rainforest, for example) is a Rainbow protest as such.
We have no leaders. We operate by consensus process. No one is in charge, we have no board of directors. For many regional events, a small circle of people often initiates the event, and the circle grows and becomes many. All the labor of getting the gathering together in a safe and healthy manner is done by volunteers.
The only rule we have is that of peaceful respect. That actually encompasses a lot, when you stop and think about it. Sure, no one can tell anyone else what to do, but if someone builds an unsafe fire under a tree, they will hear about it (hopefully in a sweet way) from many people who are worried about the safety of the camp. We like to say that everyone is Shanti Sena (Peacekeeper). The idea is to communicate in such a way that folks doing something non-peaceful, non-respectful, unhealthy, or unsafe will see the error of their ways and choose to get with the program. When something really out of line occurs (a violent individual hitting someone with a club, for example) a Shanti Sena council (consisting in the ideal of all interested parties, as well as some experienced folks from the Shanti Sena Clan to give guidance and physical safety) forms to deal with the issue. If the victim of the violence wishes to press charges, the incident is dealt with accordinly, and the Shanti Sena folks cooperate in turning the perpetrator over to local law enforcement - a controversial move, to be sure, but in some cases unavoidable and sometimes even desirable. If no one wants to see the local authorities involved but a person is considered a danger to the safety of folks in camp, two options are commonly turned to: someone capable of handling the situation volunteers to accompany the offending person 24 hours a day around camp; or the person must leave the gathering and not come back that year.
As per a standing consensus by the Rainbow Family Tribal Council, we don't apply for or sign permits. With the new group use regulations instituted by the Forest Service this year, this has become a difficult position to hold.One regional gathering signed a permit and gathered under a different name than Rainbow. Weird, and lot of people were angry at the folks who signed the permit,but what are ya gonna do? Take away their hippie cards? Anyway, theoretically,if a gathering has a permit, it is by definition not a Rainbow Gathering.
Also, by long tradition, we do not gather anywhere but public land. Occassionallythere may be focussed councils (Thanksgiving Council, regional councils) that happen on private land, but gatherings themselves are always held on public land. Again, if it happens otherwise, it is by definition not a Rainbow Gathering, though the event may be very rainbow in nature otherwise.
We take responsibility for every aspect of the gathering, from set-up to clean-up. We don't ask for help bulldozing roads, getting donations from local charities or food banks. We are self-sufficient in every aspect of our gathering, and responsible for ourselves. Most important, when the gathering is over, many people stay behind to totally clean up the site. No janitors are paid to clean up after folks. Gatherers are expected to use the recycling center set up on site and to pack out what they packed in. The clean up crew takes out all trash to recycling centers and to landfills, then restores and rehabilitates the site. This may involve scarifying the earth to loosen up compacted areas, filling in ruts caused by vehicles, water-barring hilly areas, and reseeding the ground. All shitters and camps are disappeared and naturalized. This is a lot of work folks! If you've never stayed for cleanup, you've never really done a gathering. This is not a dead lot - this is real, this is a labor of love, and it's one of the only reasons, both karmically and politically, that the powers that be haven't put the ax to us long ago.
A Rainbow Gathering is not a rock concert or a platform for speakers. If cars are allowed in the gathering area proper, and if there is amplified music as a central theme, it most certainly is NOT a Rainbow Gathering (the drive-in gathering in Texas was an exception, as we were not allowed to close the road).
If it were up to me to define it, I would say this is the most important aspect of the Gathering: It is a free assembly of individuals who come together to practice peace. The focal point of the Annual Gathering July 1-7 is a coming together in a large circle, each person praying silently in their own way for peace. Most of the regional gatherings also set aside a day for the Silent Circle. A Rainbow Gathering is not a party, although partying certainly happens. It is not just a big hippie campout, although there are lots of counter-culture and new-age types camping in the woods. It is not just the world's largest love-in/be-in/ smoke-in, although a lot of that certainly goes on. For me, without the element of prayer we might as well not gather at all. For me, without the element of the Circle in which we participate, we mights as well have a hippie convention at the Hilton. For me, without the practice of Peaceful Respect and continuing attempts to create harmonyamong each other and all beings of the Earth, me might as well give up any pretense that the human race is evolving.
So, does that make things more clear? You'll probably get as many different answers as you will people answering. Good luck sorting it all out. The annual Rainbow Gathering of the Tribes will take place in the Northwest next July - Oregon or Washington. Stay tuned for directions, which will probably come out about amonth before the gathering!

Impeach Cheney

I'm not one to post all sorts of political stuff on boards but a House Resolution 333 has been proposed by Dennis Kucinich D-OH to impeach Vice President Cheney for 3 reasons.

1.) Knowingly bringing us into a war under false pretenses.
2.) Making unfounded connections between Sept 11 and Iraq.
3.) Trying to bring us into another war with Iran and violating our constitution and UN in doing so.

I tend to be very involved politically but don't usually ask friends to join in, but this time it is so important to send a message tot the people that represent us that holding the people to a higher standard the the elected officials is not ok. These people must be help accountable. If he is guilty then he will be impeached, if he is not then at least we will know that. I'm asking all of you to go to this site below and contact your represenative. http://www.house.gov/

I'm sure you get a lot of requests for such things but I have never felt it was more important to have our voice heard. Thank you for your time!

2008 will mark the year that it will be mandatory for citizens of America to have identification passports to travel from state to state. 2012 will that mark the year of the bar-code? Well quite possibly.
One world government
controlled by a computer chip
if you think you’re free
then you’re ignorant
the only way to leave
is to go with your spirt
activate your inner star
to load the ship.
This physical plain will be incompatible for the sole, roamed by drones restricted to their programing, being a helpful gear to maintain corporate monopolies for just a few to earn a great living. You will not stop the plan that is already in motion, (it’s already been done because it’s already being done) but you can prevent yourself from being caught up in the commotion. Avoid signing your name on any petitions, for your willing putting yourself in the position to be a great patsy to cover their scandalist tricks, making it really easy by taking ready-made terrorist from the list. Credit, forget it, your whole life will be stopped with just one glitch, not to mention all your information can be tracked through it.
Laws will suddenly close down our freedoms making it less easy to get around, unless you have a curtain status to access and establish your “privileges,” way to earn that credit! What a way you have to giving such great service, keep up the great work earn that free time and give your support to your united nations, who keep things how they are cause that’s the way you like it, always there to protect anyway possible to keep out those that appose. (you might want to read that last sentence as sarcastic)
